Karen Goyer Obituary
Karen Ann Goyer, 62, of Salisbury, Maryland died Saturday, December 6, 2014.

Karen was born June 22, 1952, the daughter of Robert and Patricia Goyer. Following completion of her studies at Ohio University, Karen began a 36-year career in Community Mental Health Counseling, specializing in addiction and mental health issues. Blessed with many life achievements, Karen was most thankful for her sobriety. She was a dedicated and actively engaged member of Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 35 years.

Karen deeply loved and delighted in her beautiful daughters, Liz, an attorney in Chicago and Sarah, soon to be an Ohio University alumna. She reveled in their accomplishments and followed their successes with great pride. Karen was also a devoted daughter, a cherished and supportive sister, an adored Auntie, and a beloved friend. Along with her active AA engagement, Karen was deeply devoted to her Unitarian Universalist family in Salisbury, serving as a Sunday school teacher, a founding member of the choir, and as a board member for many years.

In recent years, Karen courageously faced a series of health problems. Yet she lived life with joy, interest, and humor despite pain and setbacks. She forged on when many would have given up and continued to remain optimistic and hopeful despite limitations.

Mother Teresa encouraged us all to, "Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier." Karen personified the notion of unconditional love and acceptance; she left happiness in her wake.

Karen is survived by her daughters, Liz Brodzinski of Chicago, IL and Sarah Brodzinski of Athens, OH; her father, Robert Goyer of Chandler, AZ; her three sisters: Susan Goyer McDaniel of Los Angeles, CA; Linda Goyer Lane of New Marshfield, OH and Chandler, AZ; Amy L. Goyer of Chandler, AZ and Alexandria, VA; two nephews, Robbie and Dylan Lane of New Marshfield, OH; two aunts, two uncles, five cousins and many beloved friends.

Karen was predeceased by her mother, Patricia Goyer, and her niece, Shaelee McDaniel.

A lifelong learner and lover of knowledge, Karen wished her remains to be donated for scientific research. Having celebrated her life at a joyful service on December 8th, a family service is planned for a future date.

Per Karen's wishes, donations may be made in her memory to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Salisbury (UUFS) at 2812 Old Ocean City Road; Salisbury, MD 21804. www.uufs.net
