Michael O'Toole Obituary

It is with much sadness we announce the sudden passing of Michael Francis O'Toole. He will be sorely missed by his mother Nancy O'Toole, grandmother Alita Bennett, his sister Susan Plunet (Dan), brother Kevin O'Toole (Vanja Mudrinic) and his nephew, Sean Macdonald. He will also be greatly missed by many other relatives and friends here in Canada as well as in Ireland and England.

Predeceased by his Father (Eric O'Toole - Nov. 27, 2014) we know that Michael is now out of pain and with his beloved Dad.

After graduating from West Vancouver's Sentinel Secondary in 1981 Michael attended BCIT where he studied architectural design. He later moved to Toronto to work in the architectural field as well as working at the renowned Bau Xi Gallery. Over time Michael felt he was missing something and realized he wanted to return home to Canada's west coast. Michael began to follow in his already well-known artist mother's footsteps and over time he too became a highly sought after artist. He was always looking to better himself in every piece of his art. His paintings now hang in galleries and private collections all over the world. Michael's great talent and his love for family and friends will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The D.A.R.E BC Society (darebc.com) or your charity of choice, in the name of Michael O'Toole, would be appreciated.

A celebration of Michael's life will be held in the future.

I did not know Michael well but met him on many occasions at gallery shows. He always wore a smile, always extended a kind word, and always exuded the qualities of a friend. His humility was refreshing considering his towering ability. What a fantastic man! My sincerest condolences to you Nancy and your family.

In Loving Memory of Michael!

God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around you
and whispered come with me.

With tearful eyes we watched you
And saw you slowly slip away
and although we loved you dearly
we could not make you stay.

A Golden heart stopped beating.
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove us
he only takes the best.

Our sincere Condolences to the family, Meredith & your friends.

I first met Mike at his (and our) grandkid's house. It was Sev's birthday party and the two of them had disappeared earlier and emerged only a very short time later with a painting of a tail-less pony for a game of pin the tail on the donkey with the kids. It was beautiful. More Summer back yard visits, holiday visits, pop ins on the way back from gallery showings- interesting conversations with him every time. Grandpa Michael was always fully engaged with the kids on his visits. Our condolences to Nadine & Phil, Sev & Matteus. I know how much you will miss him. A great loss.

Nancy and family,

We were so saddened to hear of your loss. Those carefree days at Hornby gone forever! We are grateful that we had the chance to meet Michael in the 80's and have followed his career since that time. Glad to have been a recipient of one of his pieces and will cherish it. Our thoughts go out to you and your family, as I know how sad you must be. You are in our thoughts and prayers. We have enjoyed Michael's great talent and his generosity in sharing his craft with others. This world will be poorer without his sparkling presence.

I did not know Michael personally, however I feel like a little bit of his spirit is with me every day. I have two large paintings in my home, one which greets me in the morning and one which shares much of the day with me and my family. I want to say how sad I was to hear the news and I want to express how grateful I am to his parents for the talent they brought in to this world. My paintings bring me fascination and pleasure daily and I cannot imagine my home without them. I feel blessed for having been lucky enough to bring them in to my sacred space. My deepest condolences to the family.
