Anita Calverley May Obituary
Anita Calverley May was born in Garden City, Texas November 3, 1931. She entered eternal life on February 3, 2013 at Willow Manor Assisted Living in Deming.
She was the second child of Steve and Anna Lee Calverley, raised on a sheep and cattle ranch in West Texas.
She graduated high school in Garden City before attending Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas.
She met and married Ross May from Deming, New Mexico
After graduation, the couple returned to Deming where they started their family and she began her teaching career. She was a first-grade teacher in the Deming Public Schools for 22 years, serving Martin, Chaparral and Memorial Elementary schools. During this time, she earned her Master's Degree in Education from Western New Mexico University in Silver City, New Mexico.
Anita also assisted Ross in the cattle ranching business as well as school bus contractors to Deming Public Schools.
After her retirement, they enjoyed traveling around the United States and cruising with Anita's family.
She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family always came first in her life. She had a wonderfully contagious laugh that brought joy to those around her.
Anita loved the Lord and was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Deming. She was active teaching and attending Sunday School. As a young girl, she would play the piano and sing in her family church.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Ross of 61 years.
She is survived by their children, Byron of Kim, Colorado; Gary of Deming, NM; and Merrianne of Deming, NM; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The May and Treadwell family would like to thank the caregivers who lovingly took care of Anita during her battle with Alzheimer's disease; Bertha Saenz, Mari Garcia, Martha Tena, Gracie Orosco and Rita Harvey.
The assistance of the staff and management of Willow Manor - now Arroyo Vista Senior Living - was also appreciated.
A family service is planned at a later date.
Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels - exclusive provider for "Veterans & Family Memorial Care."
