Charles Leonard Francis died peacefully on October 2, 2018 in San Marcos, TX at the age of 82. Charles is remembered by his wife, Simin Hayati-Fallah, his children from his first marriage Mercedes (Francis) Clemens and her husband David, David Francis and his wife Tammy and their children Clara and Chas, Simin's children, Arash Mansouri and his wife Michele, and their children Gage, Ava, Ky, and Bijan; Daryoush Mansouri and his wife Gabrielle and their children Clio and Eli; his half-brother, David Darling; his brother, Ernest Francis and wife Anita; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Cecil and Mary Louise Brumback Francis, his half-brother Duane "Bud" Darling, and his half-sister Virginia Louise Darling Rosa.
Charles was born on August 3, 1936 in Deming, NM. Charles graduated from Capitan High School in 1954, where he was a lettered athlete in basketball, football, and track. He married his first wife, Helen Suzanne Ingraham, on August 1, 1958 and was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Education from Western New Mexico University (WNMU) in 1959 while working as a Silver City, NM police officer from 1956-1959. Subsequent to graduation, he taught business education at Reserve High School in Reserve, NM. He was awarded a Master of Arts degree in School Administration from WNMU in 1963. After moving to the Washington, D.C. metro area, Charles taught business education at the secondary school level in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Maryland from 1964 to 1995.
After remarrying in 1997, he moved to Virginia, and subsequently to Lockhart, TX in 2015.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
