Beverly Jo Jackson Obituary
Beverly Jo Jackson passed away after a long illness on October 29, 2019, at the age of 69. Beverly was a trailblazer and an entrepreneur and used her many talents and experience to help others in this city in a quiet and unassuming way. The daughter of a career serviceman, she spent six years of her childhood in Italy and West Germany. She studied at Keuka College and received her undergraduate degree from Empire State College. Her Master's Degree was from Colgate Rochester Divinity School, Rochester, NY. A lifelong learner, she did postgraduate study at Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Management.

She owned and operated Rochester Minority Business Development Center, Inc. (RMBDC) to assist minority -and women-owned businesses. She was committed to the economic development of small business enterprises, partnering with Urban League of Rochester, Monroe County Human Relations Commission, US Small Business Administration, Dormitory Authority State of New York and US Commerce Department amongst others. Notable achievements included recognition from US Small Business Administration Service as ""Firm of the Year"" and was one of three upstate study partners in the 2010 NYS Disparity Study.

Beverly had high standards, determination and persistence that influenced her many contributions to help people less fortunate than she. She was instrumental in starting the first Rape Crisis Center as well as the Rochester Community Heating Fund. She identified as a Rockefeller Republican – socially liberal, fiscally conservative -- and was a delegate to the National Republican Convention in 1988. She ran for Rochester City Council but was defeated by only 11 votes in a predominantly Democratic city.

The last five years were spent under the incredible care of the staff at Monroe Community Hospital,1 Friendship West. Contributions in her memory can be directed to the Beverly Jackson Cameron Scholars' Fund, Cameron Community Ministries, 48 Cameron St., Rochester, NY 14606. The Fund will be used to help girls achieve educational excellence. A Celebration of Life hosted by her close friends Mary Ellen Burris and Gayle Dixon will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 4-6 at Next Door by Wegmans, 3220 Monroe Avenue, Pittsford, NY.
