Edward Bendzick Obituary

Edward Joseph Bendzick

Edward Joseph Bendzick (Joe) was born on March 8, 1941 in Minnesota to Raymond and Mildred (Balk) Bendzick. He went into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 4, 2019.

He was schooled in LeSueur, Minnesota until the age of 11 when he was infected with the Polio virus. He spent two years in Sister Kinney Hospital and Gillett Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Upon his return home he was blessed to have teachers come to his home and teach him. He graduated fro LeSueur High School and went on to receive a degree in Business Management with emphasis on accounting from St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud Minnesota. He was employed in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he met his wife, Mary Moen Bendzick. They married in 1969. At the time he made job relocation and worked for Fingerhut Corporation, later transferring to a subsidiary Baker Rhodes to become Vice President of Finances. In 1973 he and Mary had the opportunity to get into business with friends and they moved to Denton, Texas to enter into real estate. From that time until they sold the business they were busy buying, building and managing apartment communities in Denton, Tyler and College Station Texas as well as Edmond and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Joe was active in the day to day operations of the properties as well as an active member of the Texas and Dallas Apartment Associations, where he served on several committees as well ass the Board of Directors. He also was an active member of the Denton Kiwanis Club where he again served on committees and revived the Hixson Award.

After retirement Joe spent many hours volunteering at St. Mark Catholic Church in Denton and Denton Kiwanis Club plus becoming a Master Gardner. He loved gardening and growing trees which gave him great pleasure. He grew pecan, apple, pears, peaches and plum trees. He loved giving his produce to friends and neighbors. In 2012 Joe and Mary moved from Argyle, Texas to Dallas to live in Highland Springs Retirement Community. He continues to be active in volunteering on committees as well as serving on the Board of Directors. The love of gardening continued as well as the fun of giving away the produce.

His life from age 11 was spent in a wheelchair. Prior to ADA life in a wheelchair could be very challenging as well with many medical conditions Joe was never a person to complain or ask why me. He was a kind, gentle and generous person who will be missed by his wife, Mary of Dallas, sisters Marva (Phil) Jorgensen and Karen (Dale) Kleinschmidt of St. Cloud, Minnesota, brother Robert (Deb) Bendzick of Rochester, Minnesota. A sister-in-law Janet (Gordon) Barry of Grove, Oklahoma, Goddaughter Kristin Kleinschmidt of Minneapolis and Jane Rogers of Jacksonville, Florida and a great many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and in-laws.

We would like to thank Dr. Michael Weisberg MD and Dr. Bruce Mickey MD who Joe considered his Medical Heroes.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to some of Joe's favorite charities.
