Schneider, Gene W. passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2009, at his home in Cherry Hills Village, CO. He would have been 83 on September 8, 2009. He was born in Enid, Oklahoma, but raised in Texas, by his parents, Harry Schneider and Gladys Campbell Schneider. After graduating as Valedictorian of his high school at the age of 16, he joined the U.S. Navy in Aviation and Radar Electronics. He then finished his BS Engineering degree at University of Texas in 1949. He was a "Longhorn" through and through. In the early 1950's, Gene Schneider became one of the pioneers of the cable television industry. Gene, together, with his late brother, Richard, were original partners with Bill Daniels in the company that built a cable system in Casper, WY, in 1952. He expanded this single cable system into the 8th largest cable company across the U.S. by the 1980's. Upon merging this company with another, Gene Schneider created an international cable company, United Global, Inc., which was bought by Liberty Global, Inc. in 2004. He served as Founder, CEO, and Chairman of United until it was sold, and through 2008, remained on the Board of Liberty Global. He was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame in 2002. Gene loved his family and was a life-long golfer. He is survived by his wife, Louise Schneider and her three children, Michele Seiver, Kim Crosby, and Carter Price and his three children, Mark Schneider, Tina Wildes, and Carla Shankle. He is predeceased by his daughter, Marta Randell. Between them, there are 15 grandkids and several cousins, nieces and nephews. The service will be held at 10am, Friday, August 28, at the Cable Center in the Great Hall, 2000 Buchtel Ave., Denver, CO 80210. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to: National Sports Center for the Disabled (nscd.org), Agape Hospice (agape-healthcare.com), or Global Down Syndrome Foundation ([email protected], 303468-6663).

Dear Tina, Mark and Carla,
I very much admired your father for several reasons but primarily because of his kindness toward others. I worked for Mr. Schneider for 8 wonderful years. I know that they were the best years of my career. I want you to know that I asked if I could see him when I heard he was ill. I heard that his wish was to have private time with his family. I wanted to tell him how much I respected and appreciated him. Since I could not do that, I want you to know how I feel.
My thoughts and those of my family are with you all at this time.
God bless Mr. Gene Schneider, a truly righteous man.
