Janet Wells Obituary

Janet, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed from this world following a hiking accident in Canyonlands National Park January 9, 2012. Born in Plainfield, NJ, she moved with her family to Colorado in 1968. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in nursing, her life's calling. An avid outdoorswoman, her love of hiking, backpacking, skiing and biking took her on countless adventures around the world. A regular participant in Wyoming's Senior Olympics, she received the Outstanding Senior Olympian award in 2011, recognizing her dedication to the organization and mentoring others. Jan is survived by her parents, Helen and Bruce Smart of Lakewood, sister Cathy Trammel (Steve), brother Bill Smart (Carla) of Arvada and cherished nieces and nephews Krista Smart Hadley, Lindsay Trammel, Read Trammel and Kevin Smart. Celebrations of Janet's life are being planned for Evanston, Lakewood and Canyonlands.
