Chelsey Jean Hood Russell, 35, was a woman and mother of extraordinary strength, compassion, and selflessness. She passed away on August 23, 2016, on Lake Powell in Utah. She was born on February 24, 1981, in Denver, Colorado to Patricia (Trisha Flueger) and Donald Hood. Chelsey graduated from Overland High School (1999), and earned her B.S.B.A. in Business (2003) and law degree (2011) from the University of Denver. An associate attorney at the law firm Welborn Sullivan Meck & Tooley, P.C., Chelsey specialized in mineral title and oil and gas regulatory matters. Chelsey was an outstanding legal talent gifted with a creative mind. She served as Secretary for the Colorado Bar Association's Natural Resources and Energy Law section. Chelsey exemplified strength, willpower, and athleticism. She gave birth to her daughter three days before successfully passing the Colorado bar exam. She was a passionate runner having completed fourteen marathons including Boston twice and ran the Leadville 100, covering 100 miles in under 28 hours. In addition, Chelsey loved climbing, skiing, cycling, swimming, and was an avid backpacker and camper. Those who knew her best characterized Chelsey by her unrivaled thoughtfulness and compassionate heart. She exemplified a love for outdoor adventure, the importance of family and friendship, and a passion for life. Above all, Chelsey was defined by a singular role as a loving mother to her two children, Hayden Elaine, 5, and Harvey Donald, 2. Chelsey is survived by her mother, Trisha; her brother and best friend, Cayman; her children, Hayden and Harvey; her niece, Zoii; and her family and friends who loved her dearly. A memorial service in celebration of Chelsey's life will be held on September 10, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. at Mile Hi Church, 9077 W. Alameda Ave., Lakewood, CO 80226, with reception to immediately follow.
