Ray Hansen Obituary

1934-2018
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ray Richard Hansen, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2018. Born June 18, 1934 in Huntington Park, California to Harvey Ralph Hansen and Edna Violet Gulbrandsen, he was the second of two children. Ray grew up in California where he attended Dorsey High School and was student body president of the association of all high schools in California. He served an LDS mission in New England.
Ray graduated with a Degree in Mathematics from Brigham Young University where he met the love of his life, Veloy Washburn. Ray and Veloy were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 13, 1957. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage together and had eleven children.
Providing for eleven children was not easy but Ray knew how to work hard. From his earliest job as one of the original computer programmers in the world, and throughout his life he provided spectacularly for his large family. He had many computer related jobs starting with his work in the US Air Force as a computer programmer at the Strategic Air Command, at JPL NASA space program, the first LDS Computer Center, to eventually owning several computer companies. Ray was also a loyal BYU fan and a lifelong patron of Ballet West.
Ray loved The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. From his youth in his beloved Arlington ward and throughout his life, he served in many church callings, most recently as the Herriman Stake Patriarch. Ray and Veloy also loved the temple. They decided early in their marriage to go to the temple every week. Fulfilling this goal led to many great adventures as they traveled the world to visit as many temples as they could. Together they visited 83 temples and Ray would eventually visit 158 temples. They wanted their posterity to be a temple going and temple loving family and lead their families by example as they had led their family.
Ray is preceded in death by his wife Veloy, parents Harvey and Edna, and his sister Dona Losee. Ray is survived by his 11 children; Don (Brenda), Ron (Shelley), Jon (Tami), Kimball (Christine), Randall (Jennifer), Darlyn (Benjamin), McKay (Heather), Chelynn, Mary Jo (Frank), Sheri (Edward) and Shannan (Noah), 54 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Herriman Stake Center, 5562 West 13680 South, Herriman, Utah at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing prior to the services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. A viewing will also be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 South 2200 West, Riverton, Utah from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Interment Herriman City Cemetery.

I am so sorry to hear about Ray's death. I grew up with Ray in Arlington Ward and have a lot of fun memories of him. One was that he was a wonderful dancer. I hadn't seen him for years until last year and we were able to have lunch together and get caught up on our lives. He talked a lot about his family and you could tell he was very proud of them. Also, all the temples he was able to see all over the world. He definitely had a full life and I am sure he is very happy to be with Veloy again as well as his parents and sister, Dona. He will be missed.

Hansens
I have many fond memories of Uncle Ray and Aunt Veloy. What a beautiful couple and family.
I know they will be able to visit occasionally to each of you as you feel their spirit(s) and help Kimball/Christine on their mission. I was able to see K/C on the 13th as we and they prepared for our daughters' weddings both on the 14th.
Love you all.
