Cristie Freed Obituary

Cristie Wicker Freed 1922 ~ 2006 Cristie Wicker Freed, 84, passed away of natural causes Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at home in Salt Lake City. She was born May 7, 1922 to Stahle B. and Reva F. Wicker. She graduated from Davis High School and the University of Utah. In 1944, Cristie married Peter Q. Freed who faithfully loved and cared for her for 64 years. They loved traveling together, the theater, and most of all, they loved their children. Together they had six children, David W. (Luella) Freed, Howard E. Freed, Michael S. (Susie) Freed, Anne (Robert) Goldberg, Kristen (Peter) Freed O'Bagy, and Jennifer (Misty) Freed. Cristie had a strong, determined yet loving personality. She was a talented writer and speaker. With charm and wit, Cristie never hesitated to announce her presence or make her opinions known. In friendly banter, she could return a clever remark and give as good as she got. Cristie taught her children to treat others with kindness and respect. She would rise to meet any challenge and always championed the underdog. Her love for animals guaranteed a home, love, and care for any mongrel or stray. Cristie is survived by her husband, Peter; all of her children; and six wonderful grandchildren, Kirsten and Julie Freed, Stephen and Peter Souvall, and Madison and Christopher O'Bagy. For their kindness and unfailing assistance for the past eight years, our family would like to thank Cristie's exceptional caregivers, Dr. James Pearl, Janina Chavez, Kristy Ann Haun, Pilar Otarala, and Cristie's close friends. Cristie's family will honor her and celebrate her life at a private gathering.

Our deepest sympathy and great sadness over the loss of such an incredible person. She was a genuine treasure whom we all loved so very much. She was admired and cared for by the whole Panushka family and Christine felt especially close to her as they shared many ideas. She never missed a screening of Christine's films in Utah, and she was supportive and encouraging in all of Christine's endeavors...this has been a terrific source of inspiration. Chritie's emmense joy for life and abundance of caring for her friends made her unique among others. Her insightfulness and delightful sense of humor radiated to those around her. With an infectious smile and gift of ironic wit, I remember such wonderful conversations, as does Christine.....you are all in our thoughts and prayers and we know how deep your loss is.

Love,

Christine Panushka and Marilyn Osoff

Dear Peter and Family,

I have quite a few fun memories of Christie, from being up at the Weber cabin when I was about 10 to driving her to Lagoon with my 2 sons, just a few years ago.

May your memories help you through the next few days.

My deepest condolences goes to the family, especially Anne and Kristen whom are very dear childhood friends of mine. I remember your mother as a very kind and positive person with a very kind voice. I go by Edith now but you remember me as "Kathy Hall" and my family still calls me Kathy. I hope that you will contact me sometime so we can get caught up with our lives.
