Michael Eric Ohlson was born in Salt Lake City on Dec 29, 1943 to Eric Alfred Lorenzo Ohlson and Bessie Marie Rodberg. Mike left this world on August 31, 2018 on his own timetable. He spent 3 days on life support before briefly awaking to give kisses, hugs, and say, "I love you and goodbye," to all of his children, family, and many of his friends.
Mike was a recovered alcoholic and for over 33 years he served as a sponsor and mentor to many men and women in recovery. Mike retired from Mountain Bell/US West, and from Utah Transit Authority. Mike married Carol Wantland, later divorced, married Deborah Lawrence, later divorced. Mike has been married to Shirley Anderson Chase Ohlson for over 25 years. Mike and Shirley had a unique and loving relationship.
Between Mike and Shirley, they have 3 daughters and 2 sons: Kimberlee Ohlson Shafer and husband Troy Shafer, Tracy Chase, Brian Ohlson and wife Andrea Ohlson, Steven Ohlson and wife Elizabet Covarrubias, and Jennifer Phillips and fiancé Travis Irvine. They also have two grandsons: Eric Shafer and wife Jordynne Shafer, Daniel Shafer, one great granddaughter Kaylee Shafer, whose hugs melted his heart. They also have a sister Kathi Ohlson, and brother Chris Anderson. Proceeded in death by sister Carla Arleen Ohlson.
We will miss this honorable man with a great sense of humor, charm, generosity and pride in all things.
We will be holding a celebration of life on Saturday, September 15 2018, from 11:00am to 1:30pm at Arbor Manor, 2888 West 4700 South.
