Nathan Nelson Obituary

Nathan James Nelson 1982 ~ 2006 Nathan James Nelson was born September 23, 1982 in Sandy, Utah. He crossed over June 10, 2006 from a rare peritoneal cancer, which had recently been diagnosed. He loved to play and watch basketball. He graduated from Woods Cross High School in 2001. He was an active member of the LDS Church having served a mission in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. A scholarship recipient, he was currently a student at the University of Utah majoring in Finance. Nathan's charismatic personality and kindness toward others drew many friends of all ages to him. His amazing sense of humor was with him throughout his life and up until his final moments. He is survived by his parents Jim and Christena Nelson, his sister, Natalie, his two brothers, T.J. and Brady, his grandparents, Carol Ann Christensen and Gilbert and Anna Rae Nelson. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Albert L. Christensen. Because Nathan chose to donate his body to the Huntsman Cancer Institute for research, there will be no viewing. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. at the Val Verda Stake Center, 2651 South 500 West, Bountiful, Utah. A gathering for family and friends will be held immediately following. His family would like to thank the nursing staff on the fifth floor of the Huntsman Institute and his three dearest friends, Ted Winn, Brett Smith, and Jessa Norton, whose support was invaluable.

Jim and Kristina,

My heart aches when ever I think about what you have had to go through. Your words at the funeral were such a beautiful tribute to Nathan and a comfort for all attending. Listening to you and your thoughts and feelings brought back such fond memories of our ward experiences. I really do miss that association. It doesn't seem real to me to have one of my "sunbeams" gone and one married in the same week. I love you and admire your example.

I was shocked to hear of Nathan's passing. He befriended me in 6th grade when I moved in and was the first to take time and teach me how to play basketball. I always looked up to him as a strong leader. My prayers go to you now. I've learned that the gospel of Jesus Christ does not take away feelings. Your pain may not leave you, but it will bring God closer to you.

Elder Nelson was an AP in our mission and was known by everyone. He was an example that we all tried to emulate. For us, he will always be remembered for his smart, quick-witted nature and for caring and encouraging us missionaries to work hard in our missionary efforts. Terry Brown

June 12, 2006

My Name is Terry Brown. I do not know this family nor the young man who passed away but this obit for some reason really got my attention.

There is nothing really that i can say to change or make things go away. Just remember that your son not very long ago taught people about the restored Gospel which is sometimes referred to as the "Plan of Happines" and yes death is a part of that plan. God can't change law but what he did was provide a way for us to live again, to be with our family once again so he provided a way and made us a promise and so go forward with that knowledge....Memories are so beautiful, they can't be taken away...a poet once said God gave us memories so that we could have June roses in the December of our lives and certainly this is a decemeber in the life of this family but know that your son, brother cousin, friend, etc this is not the end for him for he has gone on to the next phase take the happy memories, the funny memories those sacred times and carry them with you into the next life...I know that in this trying time that you can feel the Saviors love about you and i pray for that for you.........
