Phyllis Walker Obituary

Phyllis E. Walker 1922 ~ 2008 Our exceptional Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Phyllis Erickson Walker, 86, passed away peacefully August 20, 2008.Phyllis was born March 13, 1922, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ralph and Florence Erickson. She grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School. While working at Ft. Douglas, she met Harold B. Walker and prior to his service in England during World War II, they married on August 25, 1943. Phyllis survived his three year absence and their marriage thrived for 46 years until Hal's death in 1989. After Hal's return from England, he continued to work for IBM. Phyllis supported his corporate relocations from Connecticut to Ohio, and on to Michigan before the growing family returned to Salt Lake. Phyllis was an avid golfer, an amazing cook, a dedicated gardener, loved to shop, play bridge and travel. She and Harold were members of the Hi-Steppers Dance Club. They also enjoyed their homes in Palm Springs and Heber City where they made many fond memories with great friends and family. In addition to her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her sister, Carole. She leaves a legacy behind through her five children, James Walker, Palm Desert, CA; Patricia (Edward) Fizer, Mesquite, NV; Michael Walker, Janet (Kim) Bitner, Amy (Gary) Gordon, Salt Lake City, UT; her grandchildren, Courtney (Scott) Rasband, Brittany (Matt) Simons, Kyle Bitner, Rachael and Halley Gordon; great-grandchildren, Davis, Cameron and Elle, Ben and Lexi; brothers, Ken (Nancy) Erickson, Cal (Myrna) Erickson, and sister, Linda (John) Lewis. After suffering a debilitating stroke 10 years ago, Phyllis loved having so many friends and family members close by and delighted in their visits. She was more likely to inquire how others were faring, than complain about her own situation. She was an elegant, caring and beautiful woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held on Mon., August 25, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, UT. The family will meet with friends, Sun., August 24th from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and one hour prior to services. In celebration of her life, a donation may be made to either of her favorite charities: The Salvation Army or The Make-A-Wish Foundation. Online condolences welcomed at www.larkinmortuary.com

Phyllis was my back yard neighbor. She was kind and gracious and so very lovely. I got to know her better when we discovered that she and her sister Carole were childhood friends of our Aunt Laurine. They grew up together near 15th East.

Eclesiastics 3:1-2,4
"To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under the heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted...
A time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance..."

May God be with all of the Walkers, till you all meet again.
