Norma Joyce Bateman Harding

Norma Joyce Bateman Harding Beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother Norma Joyce Bateman Harding passed away peacefully at home, on January 1, 2008, after a long struggle with cancer.She was born on Oct. 19, 1929 to Earl Preston and Myrtle Hogan Bateman. Joyce grew up on a dairy farm in West Jordan. She graduated from Jordan High School, and went on to earn her Bachelor's of Science in Education from Brigham Young University. Joyce taught at Hawthorne and Oak Hills Elementary. She married Reed V Harding on April 7, 1952, enjoying 56 years together. Making their home in Bountiful, Joyce and Reed have three children. Joyce always makes her 14 grandchildren and six great-grand-children feel special and happy with her great smile, laughter, love, and view of life. Joyce loved people and shared her positive outlook, enthusiastic attitude, and talents with many individuals. She had a beautiful singing voice and sang in quartets with dear friends, choirs, and with family. Joyce served as a volunteer in many capacities; including PTA President of Bountiful High, Volunteer at Lakeview Hospital, and in community efforts. She had a strong testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ and served faithfully in Primary, Young Women, Relief Society, Activities Committee, and in the Stake Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sister Joyce Harding's missionary service spanned a decade with her companion Elder Reed Harding, proselyting in New Zealand and British Columbia, directing the Joseph Smith Memorial - Sharon Vermont, New Hampshire Mission, at Temple Square/ Church Campus Visitor Services Salt Lake City, and as an Institute Support Missionary Anaheim, California Mission. Joyce served as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful, Utah Temple. Joyce will be greatly missed, but her legacy of faith, optimism, love, and family traditions will always be treasured. Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Reed V Harding; children Jan (Steve) Young, Patti (Blake) Mathews, John (Deborah) Harding; siblings: sister- Leola Durrant (Wayne, "Huck"- deceased), brother- Wayne (Colleen) Bateman, brother- Ray (Mary) Bateman, and sister-in-law, Joy Bateman. Joyce's parents preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, the 7th of January, 2008 at the LDS Bountiful Central Stake Center, 640 S. 750 E., Bountiful, Utah. Friends and family may visit Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful, Utah, and Mon. from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.
