Doreen Thompson Obituary
Doreen Jensen Thompson, our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend, passed away peacefully July 31, 2015 at her home in Provo, Utah, surrounded by her loving family. Doreen was born July 22, 1930 in Redmond, Utah to Ira Martin Jensen and Edna A. Shipp.
She met her husband, Val Merrill Thompson, at North Sevier High School where they were high school sweethearts. They were married September 21, 1948, in the Manti Temple. Doreen and Val were blessed with 3 daughters: Paula Stander, Pauline Hill and Valerie (David) Close; 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Doreen and Val had 17 years together before Val passed away at age 37 at the Gunnison Hospital from complications after open heart surgery. Doreen then attended Snow College for 2 years and moved to Provo where she worked at Brigham Young University Evening Classes for 22 years.
Doreen had an unwavering testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and has been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She was a temple worker in the Provo Temple and served in many callings in the church. She has lived a life of service and never turned anyone away from her door that needed a friend. She showed great kindness and always had a listening ear.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to friends and neighbors for their support and their outreach of love and kindness. The last years of her life she suffered greatly from several ailments but never complained even though she was in terrible pain. She can finally be at peace with Val and our Heavenly Father without all the pain.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters, Mary (Whitney) Christensen and Enid (Kenneth) Wintch.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at the Parkway 4th Ward Chapel, 2876 West 1390 North, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Tuesday, from 6-8:00 p.m. and at the church Wednesday, from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery where she will be next to Val and her family. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.bergmortuary.com.
