Ned Bryan Combs
1935 - 2015
Our Dad and Grandpa Ned Bryan Combs passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 18th, 2015. Ned was born November 15th, 1935 in North Platte Nebraska to Archie Vernon Combs and Beama Bryan. He married Joan Larsen January 26th, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. Ned was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many capacities in the church including Bishop of the Holladay 6th Ward where he was adored by the youth he served. He later served as Stake President of the Olympus Stake and currently as Stake Patriarch. Ned spent many years as a Temple worker, recorder and sealer in the Salt Lake Temple. He loved all of his callings but sealing families for eternity brought him the greatest joy. He loved all those he served with. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family. He was employed by Continental Thrift and Loan, Capital City Bank, Bank One, retiring from J.P. Morgan Chase in 2003. He also worked for Honda of Salt Lake and loved to ride motorcycles in his younger days.
Ned is survived by his children Bryan (Jennifer), Becky Limb (Bryce), Clydia Davis (Dan), Gordon, Jim (AnneElise), 20 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and his brother Jerry. He is preceded in death by his eternal companion Joan, his parents Archie and Beama Combs, his sister Ada McConnell, and his brother Vernon. The family thanks all ER and ICU staff at LDS Hospital who cared for him tirelessly.
Funeral services will be held Saturday October 24th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Olympus 2nd Ward chapel located at 3070 E. What a great looking bunch of kids.
Thank you to all for sharing your thoughts and your comments about my father. It is so nice to feel the love of so many lives that he touched. I'm truly learning the amount of love he did have for so many people and how many people loved him. I hope if you see those you feel compelled to jot down something about my dad I would enjoy to read it. Again thank you to all.

What a pleasure to have known and worked with Ned in the temple. He is such a good soul - always kind and gentle, always smiling and uplifting. Wise in his counsel and dedicated to the work of the Lord. He was my mentor in many ways and I will forever treasure his friendship and association. Til we meet again, dear brother...

Ned was my second cousin. My Grandmother was Olive Bryan and my mother was LaVada Harrison Olive's oldest daughter. Bema was in our home when I was young several times. I believe mother visited Bema in North Platte at least once. Charles & Ada visited our home many years ago when they were on their honeymoon.
We were sorry to read of Ned's death. We never new he lived so close to us. Our Love and Sympathy is with the Combs family.

I'm so sorry to hear about Ned. He was a wonderful person. Who knows where I'd be today had I not worked with him and his daughters at Continental Thrift & Loan. He was like a father figure to me. I thought about him often throughout the years. I am so grateful I had him in my life.

Dear Combs Family,

Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you during this hard time. We can rejoice in the reunion we know is taking place on the other side of the veil. Your parents loved each other so much, they can now begin the next step in their eternal marriage. We are left behind to mourn the loss, may the memories of their love and your family bring you comfort. They will be a cherished part of our lives and memories in this area/ward.

I was in shock to hear, Sunday, that President Combs was in ICU. I had shaken his hand Saturday in the temple and he was his happy, kind, caring self. I was excited to talk to Becky and learn that he would perform his grand child's sealing. What an honor for him to fulfill his last assignment to seal one of his family members for time and all eternity. My heartfelt condolences are sent to all of you family members, Frank and I also send our deepest sympathy to all of you. Your father has influenced our life for good, many times. My mother, Lillie Parkin, worked at Continental Thrift and Loan many years ago with Ned. She enjoyed his fine character and sense of humor. My husband and I also were acquainted with Ned and had an interesting tie with him....we adopted his dog "Hansel" a wonderful dachshund who was digging up his beautiful back yard at the time. It was 1963, the year our first child was born. We loved Hansel and he was our pup until he died many years later.

Please accept our deepest sympathy. He certainly was a blessed son of our Heavenly Father.

Recently I said to my wife, I would like to contact Ned Combs as I have not seen him in years. I considered him one of my great friends particularly in the early years of his employment where we had a great amount of interaction.

One of the great people I have met in my lifetime.

I remember taking my Gordon Lightfoot "Rainy Day People" 45 up to your dad's house to play it for him...because he always knew when it was time to call. He just listened till he'd heard it all, (but always followed it with profound advice). And he never minded me crying him a tear or two. He treated me like his own, and blessed my life so very much.
