Darroll Bachman Obituary

Darroll Lloyd Bachman

Knoxville

Darroll Lloyd Bachman age 85, of Knoxville passed away Sunday morning, December 2, 2012, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital of Knoxville, Iowa.

Darroll was born at home in rural Columbia on October 10, 1927, to Flavis and Edna (Morgan) Bachman. He grew up on the family farm with his four brothers and one sister and attended Dallas School.

After high school Darroll worked at Maytag for three years and farmed with his father for one year before farming on his own. Darroll was an active farmer all his life. He took great pride in planting the "straightest" rows of corn and beans in the state with his trusty Farmall tractor. In 1997 Darroll retired from active farming but always kept a close eye on his farm. He enjoyed driving by the farm and overseeing the work being done.

On March 4, 1948, in Newton, Iowa, Darroll and Evelyn Schrader were united in marriage. They shared 64 years of their lives together until Darroll's passing and were blessed with four girls: Linda, Darla, Mary and Debra.

Darroll was an avid Hawkeye and St. Louis Cardinal fan. He wore his favorite caps with pride. He was a

4-H leader for many years and was an "excellent judge" of beef cattle.

Darroll is survived by his wife of 64 years Evelyn Bachman of Knoxville; four children: Linda (Ron) Mikles of Grinnell, Darla (Dan) Marsh of Knoxville, Mary Brandhof and Kenton Reed of Knoxville, and Debra Bachman of Knoxville; former son-in-law and father of Julie and Doug, Duane Brandhof; seven grandchildren: Shawn (Tracy) Mikles of Johnston, Danny (Karen ) Marsh of Lincoln, NE, Denay Marsh and Tom Underwood of Knoxville, Brad (Shannon) Davis of Durham, NC, Julie (Erik) Nikkel of Bondurant, Clint Davis and Carrie Robison of Knoxville, and Doug Brandhof and fiancée Katie Philippi of Mitchellville; and 8 great grandchildren: Hannah and Rachel Marsh, Sarah and Matthew Mikles, Mallory and Madison Nikkel, Rylee Davis and Gavin Davis.

Darroll was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Clayton, Marvin (Velma), Donie and Dwight Bachman; and one sister Francine Bachman.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville, with Pastors Lane Riggle and Brent Hanna officiating. Burial will follow services at Graceland Cemetery of Knoxville.

Visitation for Darroll will be held from 12 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, at the Winfield Funeral Home. Darroll's family will be present from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
