Sandra Elaine Duncan, 68, of West Des Moines died September 7, 2013 while resting comfortably at her daughter's home. Sandy fought courageously for one year after being diagnosed with ALS.

Sandy was born in Camden, Maine to Robert and Dorothy Kristufek. She was a 1962 graduate of Des Moines East High School, and earned three degrees including a PhD from the University of Iowa. She spent decades counseling, teaching and helping others as a social worker and psychotherapist.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son Dave (Shari) Duncan of Clive, IA, her daughter Melinda Duncan Foreman of Bettendorf, IA, her sisters Cathy Smith and Julie Kain of Des Moines, IA, her grandchildren Gabby, Anna and Augden, her nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother Michael Kristufek.

The family will host a Celebration of Life gathering on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Raccoon River Park Nature Lodge, 2500 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines, IA. There will be a short service at 11:30 am followed by lunch. Cremation has already taken place.
