Edwin Lewis
Minneapolis, Minnesota - Edwin Clark Lewis died in Minneapolis on February 22, 2018, at the age of 84.
Ed was born on December 1, 1933 in Shelby, Ohio, to Atlee J. Lewis and Grace Irene (Gump) Lewis. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1951, received a B.A. in psychology from Wittenberg College in 1955, and an M.A. (1955) and Ph.D. (1957) in Psychology from Ohio State University. He married Nancy White, a college classmate, on June 25, 1955.
Ed was a longtime faculty member and administrator at Iowa State University, holding the following positions: Professor of Psychology, 1957-1998; Counseling Psychologist, Student Counseling Service, 1957-1965; Chair, University Honors Program, 1966-1972; Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, 1972-1988; Associate Provost, 1988-1998; University Ombuds Officer, 2006-2008. During his time at ISU, he wrote two books and sixteen professional articles and was a fellow of the American Psychological Association. He was also a certified mediator.
Ed was a charter member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, in Ames, Iowa and a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. He was a mediator and board member at the Center for Creative Justice in Ames, and a member of the boards of directors of many other non-profit organizations.
Ed played duplicate bridge throughout his life and was a Gold Life Master bridge player. He also greatly enjoyed books, music, theater, films, and sporting events - particularly those involving the Iowa State Cyclones or the Cleveland Indians.
Ed is survived by his four children: Elizabeth of St. Paul, Jon of Minneapolis, Kendrick of St. Paul, and Mynda of Woodbury, Minn.; by many grandchildren; and by a sister, Marilyn Drunasky of Anaheim, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 2126 Gable Lane, Ames, with a visitation with the family one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the Iowa State University Foundation for "The Ed and Nancy Lewis International Scholarship for Honors" or Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 2315 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55404.
