Barbara J. Boyd, 59, died Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at her home in Slater, Iowa, after a 15 year battle with cancer. She was born September 12, 1951 in Des Moines to Lawrence and Beulah McConnell.
She was a member of Saylorville Baptist Church in Des Moines, and First Baptist Church in Plymouth, Illinois. She loved music, especially Southern gospel, as well as collecting Boyd Bears and spending time with her friends and family.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 40 years, Kent Boyd; children, Amber (Derek) Kirk, Kent (Tawnya) Boyd, Jr., Mica Boyd, and Jason (Megan) Boyd; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; her father, Lawrence "Larry" McConnell; brother, Larry (Debi) McConnell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Beulah McConnell; brothers, Oren and David McConnell; nephew, Joseph James McConnell; and her God-mother, Jackie Olson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Saylorville Baptist Church, 6429 NW 6th Drive in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 9:30 to 11 a.m., Saturday at the church.
