Bob Brown, 91, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 21 at Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel. His family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
M. Robert Brown was born September 23, 1917 in Norden, Nebraska the youngest of three children to Eugene and Susan Brown and grew up in Wayne, Nebraska. Bob worked in Omaha where he met and married Violet Nelson and had twins Bob, Jr. and Betty. They moved to Detroit, where their third child Ron was born, and he worked in the assembly plant and as a Union Steward for Excell Corp., during WWII. Bob later became General Manager of Hanley-Dawson Chevrolet in Detroit. In 1961 the family moved to Des Moines and Bob purchased Paul Manning Chevrolet at 11th and Locust and began Bob Brown Chevrolet. Bob maintained an office at the current location of Bob Brown Chevrolet at Merle Hay Road and Aurora since 1967.
Bob was a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine; a Mason and the Wakonda Club. He loved to hunt, fish and golf.
Bob is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Violet; children, Bob Brown, Jr. and his wife Pam of Dallas Center, Betty Brown, and Ron Brown and his wife Dana all of Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Bobby Brown, Michelle Fisher, Michael Brown, Todd Brown, Matt Brown, Ronnie Brown and Frances Brown; two step granddaughters, Nancy Williams and Jessica Daniels; three great- grandchildren, Simone Brown and Jackson and Nash Fisher and two step great grandchildren, Abby and Hannah Swift. He is also survived by his sister, Opal Marsh.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
