Bonnie Rufer Obituary
Bonnie Rufer

Urbandale - Bonnie K. Rufer passed away while surrounded by family at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota on January 2, 2019. Her death was the result of complications from a liver disease that she had been battling for the previous three years.

Bonnie was born to Vern & Leona Haley in Storm Lake, IA on August 25, 1942. She was raised by her parents on a turkey farm near Quimby, IA where she attended school, graduating from Quimby High School in 1960. From there she moved to the city of Des Moines to attend and graduate from AIB. After graduation, she began working at LOOK Magazine where she met her husband, Rodger. In 2007 she retired from Morgan Stanley as a sales assistant/executive secretary.

"Bonnie" means "beautiful" and for those that knew her, she fit that definition, both inside and out. She had a servant's heart and a gentleness that made everyone around her feel like family. Bonnie had a calming, sweet spirit and an incredible gift for hospitality. She loved to host, especially on holidays, and would spend endless time in the kitchen cooking meals, baking cookies, etc. for anyone and everyone.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister Mary Lee, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her husband Rodger, daughter Carrie Goodman (Josh) of Des Moines, son Rodger Rufer Jr. (Kelly) of Williamsburg, son Eric Rufer of West Des Moines, and daughter Rebecca Baum of Des Moines as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be missed intensely by all those who knew her, but we rejoice in knowing that she is now healed and whole, at home with her Lord and Savior.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 10th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 11th at 2:00 pm at the same location.
