Harriet Morse

Des Moines - Harriet Doris Morse, 93, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Applegate Memory Care House in Grants Pass, Oregon. Services will be held 3 pm Friday, August 17, 2018, at Westover Funeral Home. Reception to follow.

Harriet was born September 14, 1924, in West Bend, Iowa, to Harry and Hazle (Cox) Morey. She married Lyle Edward Morse on March 18, 1945.

Harriet received her business training at American Institute of Business and then accepted a position at Bankers Life Company of Des Moines. Later, Harriet worked as an Office Assistant for Morse Equipment Company for 30 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Fairs and Squares-Square Dance Club, PEO Chapter GX; TTT Chapter BS (where she was the number one seller for their annual pecan fundraising project); and Des Moines Women's Club. She was honored for her longstanding service at Blank Hospital Guild, as a regular volunteer for more than 20 years. She proudly served on the Polk County Grand Jury for approximately 15 years.

After growing up on a farm, Harriet had a rich life, including travel to all 50 states, visiting the National Parks, taking cruises with her husband, and enjoying international travel adventures. At home, Harriet loved to play bridge, garden, sew, collect stamps, clip coupons, and cook, and square dance. She had many close friends, treasured her family, and was a vital community volunteer. She was a group leader for the Bluebird and Campfire Girls troops. She loved to attend (and loudly cheer) ISU football and basketball games.

Harriet is survived by her sister, Hellen Marshall of Johnston, IA; two brothers, Herbert (Charlotte) Morey of West Bend, IA, Howard Morey of Mallard, IA; two daughters, Janie (John) Young and Deanna Morse, both of Grants Pass, OR; son, Kenneth Morse of Polk City, IA; three grandchildren, Jason (Cara) Morse, Katie (Ryan) Heard, Debra (Craig) Henslee; six great-grandchildren, Skylar Finch, Mallory, Rachel, and Aaron Morse, Emily and Kaylee Henslee. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Morse, her father Harry Morey, mother Hazel Morey, brother Harvey Morey, daughter-in-law Julie Morse and son-in-law Erik Alexander.

The family will receive friends from 2 - 3 pm Friday, August 17, 2018, at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines.

Contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, 3700 Cottage Grove Ave., Des Moines, IA 50009 or National TTT Chapter BS, 6125 Colt Dr., West Des Moines, IA 50266. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
