Mary Lou Sloan, age 80, of 1307 Doran Circle in Boone passed away at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone on Saturday evening, April 21, 2012 where she had resided since November of 2009.

She was born Mary Louise Busching on August 31, 1931 in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Lucille (Madigan) Busching of Clarksville, Iowa. She graduated from Clarksville High School in 1949 as class valedictorian. Mary Lou attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 1953 with a BSC degree in Business. She was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma honorary sorority and was named 1953 Commerce Woman of the Year.

As a freshman, she met her husband to be, Morris Sloan, and they were married December 21, 1952, while he was a junior in medical school. She worked briefly at Michigan State University while Morris interned in Lansing, Michigan. Following his service in the military and medical residency program, the family moved to Boone where Mary Lou devoted her time to raising four children, all of whom she was very proud.

Mary Lou was a member of P.E.O., Chapter NP, and Lowell study club. Her main interest was her family, but she enjoyed playing golf and traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Morris, four children, six grandchildren: Debra (Sloan) Yossi and husband Dennis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, (children Megan and Chris); Alan Sloan of Houston, Texas, (daughter Lindsay); Robert Sloan and wife Linda of Blue Springs, Missouri, (daughter Katie); and Mark Sloan and wife BK of Dallas, Texas, (daughters Elizabeth and KayDee); and a brother Dean Busching and wife Betty of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Following her wishes, the body has been cremated.

No services are planned at present. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to the First United Methodist Church and/or the Boone Area Humane Society both of Boone, Iowa.

The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to Dr. Paul Volker and the staff at the OES Home for their loving care and compassion.
