Philip 'Chick' Schwarzkopf

Perry - Philip "Chick" Frederick Schwarzkopf, 90, of Perry, Iowa, died at the Dallas County Hospital on June 12, 2018. Chick was born on January 29, 1928 in Wall Lake, Iowa (Viola Township) in Sac County on his family centennial farm, the seventh of nine children.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty Lou (Soll) Schwarzkopf and six children including Chuck (Cathy) Schwarzkopf, Jan (Jay) Pattee, Jim (Renee) Schwarzkopf, Jeff (Patty) Schwarzkopf, Cheryl (Ken) Mikuls, and Craig (Heather) Schwarzkopf. Chick is survived by 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. His beautiful sister Lucy Brooks also survives Chick.

Preceding him in death were his parents Philip and Anna (Wenzel) Schwarzkopf, brothers Bernard, Ambrose, Joseph, Eugene, and Edwin, and sisters Leonilla and Rita.

As a young man, Chick served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War Conflict. Following his years of service, he and Betty put down their roots in Adel, Iowa. He was a successful retail merchant, owning and operating several Ben Franklin stores throughout a 50-year career, starting with the flagship store in Adel. Chick was heavily involved in the community and can be remembered for his significant involvement as a coach, umpire and announcer for baseball and softball leagues in Adel and the surrounding area for decades. Betty and Chick were inseparable, often referred to as "Chicken Betty".

Mass of Christian burial will be 10am on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at St. John's Catholic Church, 24043 302nd Place, Adel, Iowa 50003 with burial following at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel. The family will greet friends at St. John's on Friday evening from 4 to 8pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to the St. John's Catholic Church Building Fund, 24043 302nd Place, Adel, Iowa 50003.
