Robert Earl Seitz (Bob)

11/4/1918 - 6/29/2016

Robert Seitz was born in St. Louis, MO, the son of Eugene and Ruth Seitz.

Bob developed a passion for the game of golf by caddying at a local country club in St. Louis. He was also a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and a member of the original "Knothole Gang."

Bob attended the University of Illinois from 1938-42 where he met Mary Lou. He left school his senior year to serve in World War II. Bob and Mary Lou were married in 1943 and lived near US Army posts around the country until he was sent to Belgium. At the war's end the couple settled in St. Louis and Bob secured employment in a local brokerage firm.

After living and working in Peoria, Ill from 1951-59 Bob and his family relocated to Iowa where he owned and operated General Bank Supply in Nevada.

After retirement, Bob and Mary Lou moved to Hot Springs AR. They returned to Iowa in 2001 to be closer to family. Bob continued golfing past age 90. He also loved the game of bridge. At 95 he was still driving to the Des Moines Bridge Center, eager to play competitive bridge (arriving early and holding the door open for others). He refused to use a cane because "it would just slow me down."

He will be remembered by his family as a kind and loving man. He provided care for Mary Lou until her last days before she entered the hospice house in West Des Moines.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law (Susan Seitz and Mike Smith-West Des Moines), son and daughter-in-law (Jim and Jerilyn Seitz-Raleigh, NC), grandson (Jason Burt-Anchorage, AK) and granddaughter Wendy Nellis (Minneapolis, MN).

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou and brothers Eugene and Warren Seitz.

The family will hold a private service.
