Samuel "Ray" Raymond Fetters
Ankeny - Samuel Raymond (Ray) Fetters, 80, passed away January 26, 2021 at Edencrest at Siena Hills in Ankeny, Iowa. Ray was born February 16, 1940, in Des Moines, the son of Walter Willis and Myrtle J. (Mays) Fetters. On July 8, 1961 Ray was united in marriage to the love of his life Nancy J. Smith. They enjoyed 58 loving years together.
Ray had many challenges throughout his life including hearing and learning disabilities that were not diagnosed or treated as a child. Nancy's love helped to heal some of his young wounds and he found happiness with his soulmate. Through the love of Christ he found forgiveness and life-everlasting. Ray and Nancy were lifelong members of Calvary Open Bible Church, now Experience Church. Together they loved christian music and Ray will always be remembered for playing his harmonica and the organ at a moments notice. Especially in the humid evenings at Clear Lake Open Bible Camp. At "lights out" time, Ray would lull the rowdy campers to sleep with his beautiful harmonic tunes.
Ray and Nancy enjoyed traveling along the Mississippi River watching the leaves burst with their autumn splendor. The inspired traditions of creating and enjoying music, the joys of travel and even the secrets of the grilled cheese sandwich that "only grandpa can make" will be carried on for generations to come.
Ray longed to be reunited with Nancy whom he lost almost exactly one year ago on January 24, 2020.
Ray is survived by his two daughters, Carolyn A. Brown and Tonya L. (Bill) Kimberley. His legacy includes 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Ray's wife Nancy, both parents and siblings all preceded him in death.
Special Thanks to family friends Janet and Mark Johnson for their love and support for Dad and Mom throughout the years. Also the staff at Edencrest at Siena Hills in Ankeny for every loving thought and action in the care for both our parents and St. Croix Hospice in Ankeny for your tender care in our Father's last days.
Ray requested to be cremated and no funeral or memorial services. His ashes will be spread throughout the Mississippi River at a later date with those of his wife Nancy whom he lovingly referred to as his Baby.
