Los Gatos, CA - Teresa Ann Heger, born in Des Moines on March 23, 1961, will be remembered for her loving generosity, bold adventurousness, and sense of fun. She graduated from Dowling High School and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Iowa. She taught English and English Language Learners for most of her career, initially in Bakersfield, CA. For the last 23 years, she lived in Los Gatos, CA, and taught at James Lick High School in San Jose, where she was loved by colleagues and students alike. Teresa was in the Peace Corps in Namibia in southern Africa the early 1990s, and traveled all over the world, making deep and lasting friendships wherever she went. She passed away at her home in Los Gatos on October 8 after struggling with breast cancer for several years.

Teresa is survived by her parents, Richard and Jean (Cianciaruso) Heger, Des Moines, IA, and six siblings: Elizabeth Heger Boyle (Matthew), St. Paul, MN; Richard Heger, Chicago, IL; Julia Clarke (Dennis), Skokie, IL; Cecelia Talley (James), Des Moines, IA; David Heger (Catherine), Des Moines, IA; and Thomas Heger (Julie), Beaverton, OR; and 15 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Denise (Davitt) Heger, and her grandparents.

There will be memorials of Teresa's life in Iowa and California. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, at St. Mary of Nazareth Church, 4600 Meredith Drive, in Des Moines, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m., and lunch following. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery after the lunch. A Celebration of Life will be held in Vasona Park in Los Gatos, CA in March 2019. More details will be provided on Teresa's Facebook page as the date approaches.

The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the many friends who supported Teresa during her illness.
