Sharon K. Conrath

Des Moines

Sharon K. Conrath, 73, was born January 16, 1941 to Mel and Darlene Hardenbrook in Des Moines. She passed away peacefully on June 11, 2014 after spending eight years battling cancer.

Sharon graduated in 1958 from Lincoln High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Audley. She loved traveling which included trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Europe, Colorado and annual family trips to Canada. Sharon was her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews biggest fan. She rarely missed an activity or athletic event. She loved attending Bible Study, lunch with the Lincoln High grads and family get-togethers.

She loved the Lord and was a longtime member of Park Avenue Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and an Elder. Sharon worked for Des Moines Public Schools and Farmland Insurance Company. She left Farmland to love and spend more time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Vicki Sprouse; and brothers-in-law, Roger Conrath and Larry Winget.

Those she leaves behind are her loving husband of 54 years, Audley; daughters, Debbie (Rich) VanPatten and Elaine Conrath; son, Scott (Kay) Conrath; grandchildren, Megan Treloar, Hannah Conrath, Nicole Conrath, A.J. Conrath and Matt VanPatten; sister, Sally (Wendell) Piper; brothers, Mel (Kenna) Hardenbrook, Mike Hardenbrook and Patrick Hardenbrook; sisters-in-law, Carol Winget and Barbara Conrath; brothers-in-law, Larry (Mary) Conrath and Jim (Carolyn) Conrath; and many other relatives and friends, all of whom were very special to Sharon.

The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014 at the funeral home followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
