Sister Joanne Mauro, CHM, (Mary Margene), 75 died at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA on August 28, 2015. All services at St Anthony Church, Des Moines: Visitation, August 31, 2-8 pm; Vigil 7:00 pm; Mass of Resurrection, Tuesday, September 1 at 11am; interment at Glendale Cemetery.

Joanne Kay Mauro was born February 5, 1940, in Des Moines to Joseph L. Sr. and Margaret Randa Mauro. She entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary in 1957, professing vows in 1960. Her AA degree was from Ottumwa Heights College, BA from Marycrest College, and MA from Drake University. Life-long teaching ministry in elementary schools in Iowa included St. Patrick, Ottumwa; St. Alphonsus, Davenport; St. Mary, Centerville; St. Joseph, Neola; St. Henry/St. Mary, Marshalltown; St. Theresa and Christ the King, Des Moines, and St. Austin, Minneapolis. She taught and counseled at St. Anthony, Des Moines from 1982 until just months before her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ralph "Marty" Mauro; survived by siblings: Don (Lorene), Frank (Cora), Joe (Joanne), John (Grace), Michael (Dorothy), Roseanne McCargar and Theresa (Frank) DeFrancisco; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as Sisters and Associates of her religious community.
