Julie (Allen) Anderson Obituary
Julie (Allen) Anderson

Julie (Allen) Anderson, 77, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines after struggling for 2 ½ years with an extended illness. Julie was born in Glen Ellyn, IL on February 24, 1935 to Dale Allen and Gweneth Stewart Allen.

On August 24, 1956, she married R. Thomas (Tom) Anderson and after graduating from the University of Iowa in 1957, settled in Des Moines. Julie worked as a legislative secretary in the Iowa House of Representative for 18 years and later as Medical Education Coordinator for Mercy Medical Center for 15 years until her retirement. Julie was a proud alumnae of the University of Iowa (Go Hawks!), a beloved sorority sister at Pi Beta Phi (Zeta Chapter), and an active member of the P.E.O. sisterhood most of her adult life. Anyone who knew her knows that Julie was always the consummate "lady". With style poise, and sharp wit, she always lit up the room! Her greatest joy in life was raising her children and doting on her five cherished grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and wonderful grandmother. She is, and always will be, loved by SO many!

Julie will be missed by her husband of 56 years, Tom; son, Scott (Debbie) of West Des Moines and daughter, Sue (Kenton) Heuertz of Manila, Philippines; and by her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Stewart Allen.

At Julie's request her body was contributed to the U of I Medical School as was her mothers. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Altoona Nursing & Rehab and Mercy Hospital for their loving care given to Julie during her extended illness.

A Celebration of Julies life is planned for a later date.
