Marshalltown

Kevin C. Janssen, 54, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013, at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m.

to 8:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service, Thursday, September 12, 2013, at the Main St. Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Internment will be Friday, September 13, 2013, at St. John's Crane Creek Church Cemetery in Tripoli, IA. A memorial has been established in his name. Kevin was born December 19, 1958, in DesMoines, IA, to Donald and Katherine

(Hulsizer) Janssen. He attended Cedar Falls Community Schools, in Cedar Falls, IA,

Columbus High School, in Waterloo, IA, and was a 1978 graduate of Cedar Falls High

School. Following high school he attended the University of Northern Iowa. He was united in marriage to Pamela Harmening on March 16, 1985, in Wailua, Kauai, Hawaii. In 1987 they moved to Marshalltown. Kevin worked in the family business of Pentz Appliance & TV in Marshalltown for 33 years, becoming owner and operator. The depth of his knowledge for his profession and uncanny ability to problem-solve were truly a gift from God. He was a Member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Founding Member of the Mid-Iowa Tom Callers-Local Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the American Legion Golf Course and was a Supporting Member of Pheasants Forever. He was also a Board Member of Brand Source North Central Region for 14 years, and was recently honored as "Dealer of The Year" for the Iowa and Minnesota region. An avid historian and political science officianato, Kevin possessed a keen insight into the details of history, and current politics, and could recite specific dates and events and relate their importance. Kevin played hockey in school, from Tiny Tots and beyond, and was an avid hockey fan. He was an active and passionate conservationist. He Loved his faithful dogs, Lily and Lucy, Cinder and Kona. He loved turkey and pheasant hunting, and the game of golf, yet sacrificed his passions to devote his life to his business and his many loyal customers. He Loved establishing and maintaining lifelong relationships with them.



Kevin will be missed by his devoted wife, Pam Janssen of Marshalltown; his loving mother-in-law, Esther Harmening of Tripoli, IA; his sister, Lynn VanBrocklin of Dallas, TX; his nieces, Denise Willson of Cedar Rapids, IA, Dawn Hexom of McGregor, IA, Tammy (Dwayne) Wiebold of Central City, IA, Sara Deustch of Cedar Falls, IA and Jena Marlatt of Clermont, IA; his great-nephews, Shane, Jace and TJ Hexom of McGregor, IA; Nathan Merrifield, Michael and Austin Wiebold and great-niece, Sabrina Wiebold all of Central City, IA; his uncle, Jerry Hulsizer of Castle Pines, CO and Aunt Carol (Ron) Krause of DesMoines, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandparents, Ernest and Evaline Hulsizer and his paternal grandparents, Phillip and Catherine Janssen, brother-in-law Greg VanBrocklin. And not without mention, he will be sorely missed by his many friends, neighbors, colleagues and customers.

Pam - So much time has passed since I last saw you and Kevin. Im so sorry for your loss, and miss the time we all spent together so many years ago.

Pam, we attended the conference in Las Vegas and saw you and your husband receive the award. We don't know you personally, but we had to reach out and tell you how sorry we were to read of Kevin's passing. I'm sure he was looking forward to contributing much more to the industry.
