Susan Marasco Obituary

Susan "Sue" Marasco

Des Moines

Susan J. (Sue) Marasco, 86, passed away peacefully Friday, September 5, 2014 surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home. A rosary will begin at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at St Anthony's Catholic Church.

Sue was born on March 8, 1928 to Sam and Mary Fazio. After graduating from Lincoln High School, she met her future husband, Michael J. Marasco, who worked side by side with his father, Sam, in the family business, Supreme Baking Company. Later, he was co-owner of Marasco's Shopping Center.

Mike and Sue branched out on their own in 1958, and Michael's Restaurant & Lounge was opened. They owned and operated Michael's for 35 years.

Susan loved to bake, cook, crochet and share her creations with family and friends. She especially loved to reminisce when her grandsons, who she lovingly called "my boys", would wait around the kitchen table for the warm tarallis coming out of the oven.

She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Marasco of Des Moines, Jeanette (Bill) Behrendt and Christine (Len) Sagenbrecht , all of Omaha; their children, Dr. David Doty, Dr. Nicholas (Becky) Behrendt , Michael (Courtney) Coleman , Joseph Behrendt, Anthony (Stephanie) Bradley, John Behrendt; four great-grandchildren, Henry, Stella and Brooks Behrendt and Brenna Coleman. Also surviving is a son, Michael, and his children, Andrea and Chris Marasco.

Preceded in death by her husband, Michael; parents, Sam and Mary Fazio; brothers, Sam and Ed Fazio; and sister, Evelyn Caligiuri.

Memorials to Kavanagh House on 56th and Alzheimer's Research.

To all of "aunt Sue's" family my deepest sympathy for her passing. Heaven got another angel. She was one of my mothers and fathers best friends and always came over to visit when I was in town. Making her special dishes. She came to DC and Florida with my mom and the cooking was out of this world. I loved her and her gentle spirit and sense of humor. Deborah Lopez Rountree

Although I didn't personally know Mrs. Marasco she seems to have been a loving and well loved woman from family and friends. I do send my condolences for your loss. Losing my mother I also know the pain that can come with the loss. Here is a verse that may be of some comfort during this time, "...I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears". My sincere condolences.

Thom and I want to share our sincere sympathy to the Marasco family for the loss of your mother. We remember a great Sunday dinner with the family, Jeanette & Bill, Mama Sue and Daddy Mike...food came non-stop out of that kitchen to the two huge lazy-susans on the dinner table! Great food, good fun, and a wonderful family! We have great memories of going to Michael's Restaurant where Daddy Mike would come out with a tray full of wonderful Italian goodies to taste! Thom always thought that was the greatest job in the world...to share food with friends! Mama Sue and Daddy Mike are now cooking up a storm behind the pearly gates! God Bless them...and all of you!
