R. Wesley Carlson

R. Wesley Carlson, 88, of Humboldt, passed away November 19, 2014. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mr. Carlson is survived by his wife, Lola of Humboldt; sons, Terry (Toni) Carlson of Laguna Woods, CA, Thomas (Tina) Carlson of Waupaca, WI, and Todd (Sara) Carlson of Clive, IA; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren. Wes is also survived by his brother, William (Winnie Lee) Carlson on Ames, IA and his sister, Pearl Ann (Dr. John) Tabor of Denver, CO. Wes was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Carlson; his daughter, Lynne Carlson Allen; parents, Eldon and Pearl (Pettersen) Carlson; and brothers, Don Carlson and Rodney Carlson.
Wes served as a teacher at Vernon High School, Laurens High School, and Boone Valley High School until his appointment to Superintendent of the Boone Valley School District in 1957. In 1963, he became the Superintendent for West Union School District and in 1970, he accepted the position of Superintendent for the Humboldt Community School District. Mr. Carlson retired in 1989. Wes was the recipient of the Lyle T. Quinn Award from the Iowa High School Association and served as the president of the Iowa High School Administrators Association in 1976.
