Candace Burnell Obituary
Des Moines
Candace Hanson Burnell, 67, passed away on October 11, 2015, from lung cancer. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, October 17 at Iles Dunn's Chapel, followed by fellowship and celebration.
Candace was born March 24, 1948 in Jefferson, IA to Donald and Phyllis Hanson. Candace graduated from Paton Churdan High School, received a BS in Applied Arts from Iowa State University and proudly earned a MAED at age 54. Candace married her high school sweetheart, Busby Burnell, in 1968. Candace was passionate about art and working with troubled or challenged women and children. At her death, Candace worked at Des Moines Alternative School.
Candace leaves daughters, Erin (Steve) Kelso of Westminster, CO and Sarah (Matthew) Losee of Paton, IA; cherished grandchildren, Alexander, Sarah and Amelia Kelso and Isaiah, Meadow and Nala Losee; brother, Lee (Patty) Hanson; sister, Deborah (Jerry) Cave; step sisters, Sandy Rosenberger and Jennifer Finnerty; step brothers, John Evans and David (Deb) Evans; parents-in-law, Robert and Madeline Burnell; brother-in-law, Richard (Judy) Burnell; sister-in-law, Cindy (John) Garvin; aunt, June McGrew, and many amazing nephews and nieces. Candace was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and beloved sister-in-law, Virginia Hanson.
In lieu of flowers, Candace would be delighted with the planting or donation of a tree, shrub, or flowers to a park or arboretum.

Candy and I grew up together near Glidden, IA. She and I were in 4-H and did many demonstrations for the county fair. Her mom was one of our dedicated 4-H leaders. She was a beautiful young woman. So sorry to hear of her death.
