Christopher Ervanian Obituary

Christopher James Ervanian

Des Moines

Christopher James Ervanian, age 55, died in his home in Des Moines, Iowa on November 19th, 2015. He was born on August 26th, 1960 in Birmingham, Michigan.

Christopher was many things to many people. To his family, he was a gifted artist who was endlessly curious about nature, the natural sciences, and history. He loved nature and being in it as often as he could be. He was an avid reader on a wide range of topics. He was endlessly curious and seldom believed that the first answer to anything was the right answer. Christopher's humor was mercurial, and his laugh was, simply, gigantic. To his family, most of all, Christopher was a helpful and devoted brother, son, father, and grandfather, always willing to help as he could.

Over the years, Christopher went out of his way to help many friends whose needs he perceived to be greater than his own, even when circumstances made it difficult for him to do so. This trait, perhaps more than any other, defines who Christopher was.

Christopher proudly served in the United States Army.

Christopher is survived by his sons, Alex Ervanian and Greg Ervanian; granddaughter, Cecilia Anne Ervanian; father, Alexander Ervanian (Katy Gammack); and three siblings, Mark Ervanian, Mary Ervanian and Gregory (Leah) Ervanian. He was predeceased by his mother, Mayrellen Dahlke.

Services for Christopher will be held in the spring, as he would have preferred. For those who wish to make a memorial contribution, please do so in Christopher's name to Habitat for Humanity, The Nature Conservancy, or the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Christopher's family loved him unconditionally, misses him terribly, and always wanted the best for him.

I haven't seen Chris for many years but in the past, when we would see each other, we both always had a big smile on our faces and glad to see one and other. My sympathy goes out to all of the Ervanian family. I was glad to have known him!

I enjoyed the times when Chris would stop in after riding his bike over here. He came in the house and he and I would share great conversation over a variety of topics. His intelligence was beyond superior with the variety of current events we discussed. After a few minutes, he would go outside to the shed and share some beers with my friend Jim. Daisy,my pupper wuppers, had a great fondness of Chris as he nicknamed her Daazzue. She was crazy about him! Chris, I certainly enjoyed all of your visits and will greatly miss those times when you would bebop in. I will cherish those memories forever. Miss you. RIP Chris until we meet again.

Peace to all, I'll remember Chris as easily one of my favorite people along the way. Ran into him recently in the store and we slipped into an easy conversation that didn't seem to reflect the 20 years we had missed, he was buying English muffins and fruit preserves. Lovely guy, see you on the other side old friend.

I'm so sorry to hear of Chris's passing. He will be missed. When I saw him, he always had that sparkle in his eye, wry grin and cheeky thing to say. The word "human" comes to mind and all that it encompasses. RIP dear Chris and my deepest sympathies to the Ervanian family.
