Clyde Haag
Des Moines - Clyde Haag, 88, died at home on January 1, 2018. Born in Des Moines, Iowa January 24, 1929 to Carl L. DeLong Haag and Pauline Kerr Haag. Services will be held on Thursday, January 4, 10:30 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4114 Allison Ave. Des Moines, Iowa. The family will greet and share memories with friends and family from 9:30-10:30 am.
Clyde attended the former West High School, Grandview College and Drake University. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War. Clyde's love of airplanes and flying began at a young age when he obtained his pilot's license; yet barely old enough to drive a car. His love of flying led him to work at Mid Continent Airlines and later Braniff Airways where he met his wife, Vivian Louise Wilson. They were married on Valentine's Day, 1956.
For 32 years, Clyde proudly worked as an Air Traffic Controller for the Olathe Federal Aviation Administration Center in Kansas and the Des Moines Tower. In 1989, after his long career, Clyde retired with accolades for his safety and service record. During retirement, he returned to golfing with friends and puttering around his house and yard. His love of flying led him to using his computer flight simulators to challenge himself learning to fly aircraft he had never flown before. Up until his death, Clyde bragged that he was learning to fly Huey helicopters. He was an active member of Windsor and Westminster Presbyterian Churches.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Richard (Winifred) Haag, and Jerry (Ruth) Haag. Surviving Clyde are his wife of 61 years, Vivian Louise Wilson Haag, sister Phyllis (Frank) Watson, daughter Melinda S. Haag (Jane E. Barker), son James J. Haag (Lori Haag), and grandchildren Amanda M. Haag, Jordon J. Haag and Anne W. Barker, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Clyde's memory to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Windsor Presbyterian Church.

Sorry to hear about Clyde. We worked together as controllers since Aug 1970 thru Aug of 1999 when I retired. He was my supervisor for a number of years during this period. He was considered a great supervisor by many and never got rattled over events. He will be welcomed by many that he worked with over the years. In sympathy to you Vivian and your family. Sad to hear of your loss Vivian and family. I worked with Clyde for many years at the old and new DSM control
towers. He was a top notch controller and just a great person to be around. His sense of humor was contagious. My best to you all.

My prayers are with your family during this time JJ.
I will always remember your father driving to Muscatine to pick us up after RAGBRAI and riding back in a trailer full of Muscmellons.
