Robert (Bob) Clarence Brayton

Madrid - Robert (Bob) Clarence Brayton 77, of Madrid IA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2019, at 1:30 am in Correctionville Specialty Care. He was born June 25th, 1942 in Des Moines, IA, the son of Robert M. and Lois (White) Brayton.

Bob graduated from Dallas Center Highschool in 1960. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy as a damage controller on the USS Radford. He worked for John Deere in Rock Island. IL, where he joined the UAW. Bob was a loyal member of the Union along with serving in the Army Reserves. He relocated his family to Des Moines in 1966 and was employed by Firestone, where he joined the URW. Bob stayed strong in the Union and was on the board of Health and Safety during his time at Firestone. He retired from Emco Enterprises in Des Moines, IA in 2004 where he was a UAW member and served as the Chief Union Steward being the main negotiator writing the Emco Union Contract.

Bob was an artist at heart and enjoyed drawing and airbrushing characters for his

kids and grandkids. He loved his horses, dogs, and riding his motorcycle.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his companion Linda Ryan, siblings Jackie Griffin, Sharon Seeley, Charlotte Gray, and Donald Bruce Brayton.

Surviving family include sister Cindi Wilson, children Brett (Veriti) Brayton, Kenneth (Lindsey) Brayton, Curtis (Lynn) Brayton, Babette Batten, 9 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

A memorial will take place at the Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA on February 21st, 2020 at 11:00 am followed by a celebration of life at the Stuart Legion Hall. Those who wish to remember Bob in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Veterans of America.
