George Duditch Obituary
Duditch

George , born on August 25, 1923 in Detroit, MI, loving husband, father (Papa), grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on July 25th, 2017. His spirit is positive and surrounds us with kindness. George was a model of service to his country, community and family. George was one of the last of the greatest generation, serving in WWll as a Staff Sergeant and stationed in Hawaii after Pearl Harbor. Upon returning he married and attended MSU and WMU obtaining a Masters Degree in the Sciences. He also played football and baseball at these Universities.

George became a teacher in the Grosse Pointe school district where he taught for 40 years. He also coached both sports and was fondly known as Doc Duditch for his skills in helping with injuries. Not only did George dedicate himself to helping students, he also became a community activist volunteering his time and love to countless others. George served in various public positions including President of the Board of Education in the South Lake School District in St. Clair Shores, as well as 40 years of committed service to the Shorewood Kiwanis and other neighborhood organizations. Some examples of his goodness are: Playing Santa for hundreds of kids, going door to door giving out presents for needy children, coaching young children in neighborhood baseball programs and of coarse his famous corn roasts every summer for the whole neighborhood! There are so many other examples of humanity George taught to all.

He loved his family so much. For many summers he would lead his family on an annual trek to New England to camp, and enjoy the beauty of the area. He did the same throughout Michigan, boating swimming and BBQ'ing his unmatched rib and chicken dinners! He was so proud of that meal! Every winter the kids would sled, toboggan, skate and play hockey as George loved kids to laugh and have fun. He was a life time Red Wings and Tigers fan too and took many to live games. He worked hard and made sure all four of his children attended and graduated from various Michigan Universities as education was his top priority. He was really a great man who dedicated so much of his life to his family and others. They just don't make them like George anymore always willing to put himself last in favor of acts of kindness.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 YEARS, Ida, his children George(Sue), Gary(Carol), Douglas, Donna(Rick), his grandchildren Rachel(Scott), Tara(Rob), Natalie and Madalyn, his 4 great grandchildren, and the hundreds of lives he touched. We all miss him tremendously but know he travels on the wind and his soul will never die.

The family asks that donations be made in memory of George Duditch to the Kiwanis Club of Shorewood P.O. Box 87 St. Clair Shores, MI 48080 http://shorewoodkiwanis.org/tribute-to-george-duditch.html.
