Betty J. Martin Obituary
Betty June Buchanan Martin left this life Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, in Burleson. Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel. Interment: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Betty was born in Handley on June 22, 1935, to Vida Delilah Davis and H.A. "Buck" Buchanan Sr. Betty graduated from Polytechnic High School in the class of 1953. She worked at First National Bank and A. Davis Clothing during her early life. She and Eddie were married Dec. 9, 1955, in the house he bought for her on Chickasaw Street in Fort Worth by the Rev. Vanderpool. She was always up for anything Eddie came up with, whether bouncing across Eagle Mountain Lake in a rented l4-footer or pushing shingles up the ladder three at a time to keep him from having to climb so much while replacing the roof. Neither could imagine anyone else they would have wanted to walk with through life. He said if he could put the names of every woman he had ever met on the wall and point first at the one who would make the best wife, and to the one who would be the best mother for his child, and then pick out the one who would be the best grandmother for his grandchild, every name would be hers. She loved her family and they always came first. Her grandson was the light of her life. She told him many stories when he was little, made from whole cloth and the hero of the stories was always a little boy named Robert. She would always include his friends in trips to the park or the zoo. And the love she gave to those children is reflected in their love and adoration they have for the woman they call "Granny." The wake of her passage is filled with people she and Eddie helped along the way. When they were in a position to help and had the tools needed, they always said it cost them nothing to help and the people needed helping, so that is what they did. She was preceded in death by her brother, Henry Allen Buchanan. Survivors: The love of her life and husband of 58 years, Eddie Martin; son and daughter-in-law, Eddy Dale and Julia Martin of Arlington; grandson and his wife, Robert Edward and Krystin Elsa Martin of McKinney; sister, Ysleta and her husband, Vernie Bradshaw, of River Oaks; and numerous relatives, nieces and nephews.
