Jacquelyne Hughes Obituary

Jacquelyne Sue Hughes, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3401 Bellaire Drive South. Burial: Crown Hill Cemetery; Tulsa, Okla. Family hour: The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Simon Episcopal Church, 5505 Ramey Ave. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Simon of Cyrene Episcopal Church, 5505 Ramey Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76112, or a charity of your choice. Jacquelyne Sue Hughes was born Sept. 22, 1936, in Tulsa, Okla., to Ray and Juanita Sudduth Johnson. A graduate of Oklahoma State University, she worked 39 years as a buyer for Bell Helicopter Textron. Devotedly faithful to God, she served in the Altar Guild, Episcopal Church Women, Choir and Hospitality Ministry at St. Simon Episcopal Church, and was a Bible Study Fellowship student for many years. She loved the Big Sky country in Wyoming and the Pacific Ocean - places where she saw Him more clearly. Jacquelyne was friendly, gregarious, outspoken, and the unifying factor in her family's life. She was a consummate basketball fan, champion of her husband, children and grandchildren, world traveler, major shopper and indulgent grandmother. She was preceded in death by a son, John Charles Hughes. Survivors: She is cherished forever in memory by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert L. Hughes Sr.; son, Bob Hughes Jr. (Nicky); daughters, the Rev. Carlye Hughes (David Smedley) and Robin Hughes (William Arnold); grandchildren, Robyne, Carlye Kaye, Gabrielle, Griere and Grant; her dear friends, Anna Jo Reece-Johnson, Jamie and Marty Lufkin; a host of other family members; and many friends.

Dear Hughes Family,

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

My heart is saddened to have learned on the news of the passing in my opinion the FIRST LADY of basketball. As a former student at Dunbar and player I was more nervous of letting her down than the Legend (Robert Hughes, Sr.) She carried herself with such class and dignity at all times proudly is what I shall remember an miss the most.

Respectfully,

VELMA MORSE-HOLT

It was my privilege to work with Jackie at Bell Helicopter. She was always a lady and very professional – smart, friendly, always smiling, and had a good sense of humor. She was so proud of her husband, and once told me how hard he worked to achieve the successes he did. My sincere condolences to Coach Hughes and all the family.
