Mary Ellen Huck Carmichael Obituary
Mary Ellen Huck Carmichael passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, in Greenwood Garden Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood. Mary was the daughter of Robert Milton Huck and Edith Cook Huck. She was the devoted wife of Louis L. Carmichael Sr. for 53 years. She and Louis met while in grade school and married after their graduation from Polytechnic High School. She was the loving mother of Louis L. "Lee" Carmichael Jr., who was born while his father served in the United States Army, and the proud grandmother of Jennifer and Jeffrey. Mary once worked as the city secretary of Forest Hill. She proudly supported her husband in his career at Missouri-Pacific Railroad, from which he retired as superintendent of the Centennial yards. She was a longtime member of Forest Hill Presbyterian Church. She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and later Ladies Without Shriners, as her husband served as the 48th Caliph of the Moslah Shrine Bedouins. Mary was preceded in death by her husband; son; parents; and sisters, Jane Youngblood and Kay Van Norden. Survivors: Daughter-in-law, Carol Carmichael; grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeffrey Carmichael; nieces, Nancy McGough and Sally Joslin; and nephew, Pete Youngblood.
