Mary Helen Guinn Obituary
Mary Helen Guinn, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 29, 2013. Memorial Eucharist: 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at All Saints Episcopal Church. A reception will follow at the home of Jeff and Lynn Nichols. Memorials: All Saints Episcopal Church, referenced to either the Permanent Endowment Fund or Amazing Grace Children's Home, in lieu of flowers. The family would like to thank the staff at Renaissance Park for their loving care over the last 42 months. Mary Helen was born May 7, 1924, in Fort Worth to George Robert and Jessie Mitchell Henderson. The daughter of a pioneer Tarrant County family, the Hendersons came here in 1854 from Kentucky. They first lived at the site of the old Washer Bros. store in downtown Fort Worth. Later they moved to a dairy farm in southeast Fort Worth after cattle were repeatedly found on Main Street from cowboys leaving the gates open. Henderson Street was named after her father, George R. Henderson Sr. Mary Helen graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1941 and North Texas Teachers College, now UNT, in 1945. After college, she performed in summer stock theater in the New York/New England area before coming back to teach in the Fort Worth ISD. She was also later cast in several TV commercials. She was a past member of the Fort Worth Women's Club, AAUW, Ridglea and Colonial country clubs and Farando Dance Club, and served on the Altar Guild and as a Stephen minister at All Saints. She was predeceased by her first husband, Alfred "Jake" Nichols, the father of her three children; second husband, C.N. Guinn; daughter, Cathy Ann Nichols; and brother, George R. Henderson Jr. (Frances). Survivors: Daughter, Pamela Jean MacArthur (John); daughter, Judy Guinn Fisher (Denny); son, Jeffrey Robert Nichols (Lynn); grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Nichols, Robert Henderson Nichols (Emily), Carla Hurd (David) and Nathan Pirone; great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Davis Nichols, Kadron Pirone, Angelina Guinn Hurd and Braydon Hurd; and cousins, James Martin (Janet), William Mitchell (Betty) and their families.
