Ray W. Wheeler, 87, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013. Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth with Dr. Murray Richey officiating. Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray's name to John Knox Presbyterian Church, 4350 River Oaks Blvd., Fort Worth, Texas 76114, or Parkinson Support Group of Tarrant 4638 Lafayette Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76107 Ray was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Robinson, Ill. He graduated from Polytechnic High School and then from TCU in 1949. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy where he flew as a gunner radioman in SB2C Helldivers. Ray married Maurine Briley in August 1950. He retired from General Dynamics after 41 years in material management. He was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church where he was an elder. He enjoyed boating on Eagle Mountain Lake. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Maurine Wheeler; sister, Kitty Onstott; and parents, Cyril O. and Doris O. Wheeler. Survivors: Sons, Leonard Wheeler and wife, Debbie, and Brian Wheeler and wife, Cherie; daughter, Laura "Lollie" Moore and husband, Jimmy; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Wheeler; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Onstott and Curtis Briley; sisters-in-law, Mildred Briley and Christine Upchurch; and numerous nieces and nephews.
