Clayton Culp Obituary
Clayton Culp, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014. Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel in Fort Worth. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Clayton Culp was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Gatesville to Arthur and Ethel Culp. The family moved to Fort Worth and he attended Polytechnic High School until joining the Navy in 1942. He served aboard the destroyer USS George W. Ingram, crossing the Atlantic 18 times. He was headed to Japan when the atomic bomb was dropped. After the war, Clayton went to work as a police officer and later started a career as a DPS officer with two brothers, Clinton and Joe Culp. After his graduation from Texas Wesleyan College, he worked for the health department as a dairy inspector and later as a restaurant inspector. He retired after 40 years of service to the city of Fort Worth. He was a member of the Granbury Masonic Lodge and received his 50-year pin. He was preceded in death by two sons, Lance Cpl. Karl H. Culp and Marvin E. Culp; brothers, Clinton and Joe Culp; and sisters, Millicent Pruitt and Dorothy Houston. Survivors: His loving wife of 68 years, Annie Dee Young Culp; sons, Doyle and wife, Vivian, and Marshall; sister, Evalyn Willis and husband, James; grandchildren, Kristi Hughes and husband, Mike, Jason Newton and wife, Denise, Dr. Clayton H. Culp and wife, Johanna, Heather Jackson and husband, Chris, Rebekah Culp and Kathleen Culp; great-grandchildren, Luke and Micah Bumstead, Hadin and Jackie Hughes, Michael Mallonee, Chase, Hunter, Brayden and Ryan Jackson, Sienna and Kelton Culp; and numerous nieces and nephews.
