Louis John Hilscher Obituary
From Oct. 25, 1917, to Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, Jay Hilscher gave this world a run for its money. Jay's world revolved around his wife, Margaret Hilscher. Never has a man loved and respected a woman more than Jay. Jay's life had two simple pillars: hard work and faith in God. Jay learned and developed his work ethic from his own father, Otto Hilscher. In fact Hilscher Nursery, Jay's namesake family business, was founded by Otto in 1920 after Otto was given just six months to live by his doctor. Otto proved that doctor wrong by continuing to live to be 94 years old. Jay took Otto's nursery business idea and grew it into a Fort Worth institution. In his prime, Jay was such a keen entrepreneur that he was given numerous business awards, including being personally honored for such an award by First Lady Pat Nixon at the White House. In 1977 Jay was elected president of the American Association of Nurserymen. In spite of all of these accolades, Jay's proudest accomplishment was his 72-year marriage to his dream girl, Margaret, who he will be laid to rest next to on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at Shannon Rose Hill funeral home in Fort Worth. Jay's protege and son, Steve, predeceased Jay in 2012. Jay is survived by his two grandsons, Josh and Matt Hilscher, and also his best friend and dog, JoJo.
