James Corbett Miles Obituary
James Corbett Miles, 96, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Monday in Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington. Visitation: 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Arlington Chapel. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in James' name to A&M Association of Former Students, 505 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840. James was born Feb. 5, 1918, in Handley to Jesse James and Beatrice Miles. He lived the majority of his blessed life in Fort Worth before moving to Rockwall in 1995 to be closer to his family, which was the most important thing in the world to him. He was a graduate of Handley High School where his impressive mind that stayed razor sharp for his entire life earned him the salutatorian title as well as his acceptance to Texas A&M University. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and stayed involved for 25 years attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. James touched thousands of lives for almost 40 years as the longtime elementary school principal in the Fort Worth ISD. He was born in 1918, but his life began in 1948 when he married Kathleen ("Mama") and for the next 66 years he led a selfless life for his family and will live on through the indelible mark he left on Kathleen as well as his only daughter, Corleen, and only grandson, Jamie. While it is a tragedy that James has left us, we are fortunate to have had our lifetimes overlap. With virtues far exceeding his vices, James was the celebrity that you never hear anything bad about leading by humble example. The world is a worse place without him here, but it is a better place because he was here -- he was simply a good man. Survivors: Wife of 66 years, Kathleen; daughter, Corleen Helwig and husband, James; and grandson, Jamie Helwig and wife, Tara.
