Billy Gene Baker Obituary
Billy Gene Baker, beloved husband of 40 years to Shirley, passed peacefully from this earth Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cresson United Methodist Church, Al Munger, pastor, officiating, with Dr. Sue Munger officiating music. Mr. Baker donated his body to University of North Texas Health & Science Center in Fort Worth. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Mr. Baker wished for donations to Cresson United Methodist Church, 110 S. Crook St., Cresson, Texas 76035-4420; SPCA of Texas, or a . He was born in Fort Worth on Nov. 11, 1932, to O.B. and Zelma Baker. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1949 and joined the Navy after graduation where he served during the Korean War. He attended TCU after four years in the Navy. He was a devoted TCU fan and always said, "I bleed purple." He married the love of his life, Shirley Blanks Hall, on Feb. 3, 1975. He was the second mayor of Colleyville, serving in 1967 and 1968, and served on the City Council for several years. He was a member of Poly Lodge #925 for over 50 years. He retired in 1997 from Atwood Mobile Products after 27 years and moved to Falconhead Gold Resort in Burneyville, Okla., where they lived for 13 years playing golf nearly every day. They moved back to Fort Worth in 2000 to assist ill parents. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Don Baker. Survivors: His wife, Shirley Baker; his children, Glynda Riggs (Rickey), Valeree Clegg (Richard), Monte Hall (Cindy); his grandchildren, Tiffany Batterton, Stacy Kuhlmann (Peter), Erin Clegg and Amber Hall; his great-grandchildren, Reece Batterton, Elliott Batterton, Jacob Dozier, Presley Kuhlmann, Pete Kuhlmann, Wesley Kuhlman, Skylar Galindo and A.J. Galindo; his sibling, Jo Feaster (Mike); niece and nephews, Don Baker (Chris), Christi Vessells, and Kevin Vessells; and his beloved companions, his dogs, Pepper, Poco and Petey.
