James "Jay" Lawrence Obituary
James "Jay" Lawrence, 84, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Monday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood. Jay was born July 11, 1930, in Tira and moved to Fort Worth in 1942. He met and married the love of his life, Charlene Burton, in 1954. They moved to east Fort Worth, where they raised two children. After graduating from Polytechnic High School in 1949, he retired from Bell Helicopter in 1990, then enjoyed his retirement job at Ace Hardware for 17 years. Jay continued to meet with his Polytechnic friends for breakfast and his Bell "Geezers" for lunch. A season ticket holder for over 55 years, Jay was an avid TCU football fan. He enjoyed his family, telling stories, watching sports, attending his grandkids' activities and tinkering in his shed. Jay loved any car that rolled off the assembly line. The ashes of his beloved dog, Kip, will be buried with him. Survivors: Wife, Charlene; daughter, Lori; sons, Mark and wife, Julie, and their children (Jay's beloved grandchildren), Sawyer, Darby, and Addy, and Rob DeSoto and wife, Marianne.
